This project involved a complete website redesign as well as improvement of the web content and integration of custom functionalities.
Cardiology Update - a healthcare news provider focusing on cardiology topics - engaged us to redesign their website. As a news provider, their new website required an appealing user interface, easy navigation, and custom functionality to promote multimedia content.
The redesign brought a fresh new look, useful navigation tools, as well as custom functionalities such as a video slider, podcast links, a membership area with restricted content, and an e-learning platform. Additionally, we improved the tags and categories for the web content to improve searchability and a better user experience.
Design and development
In terms of design, our strategy was to modify the existing brand identity with a new colour palette and font for a cleaner look and pleasing user experience. We developed two different themes which were presented to the client for their preference.
To further develop the user experience we designed a template for their specialities (categories) page which allowed for better searchability and navigation, and revised the standardised article layout. We improved the blog’s tags and categories to provide clear categorization of all the content. We also introduced a ‘back-to-top’ button and custom-coded dynamic snippet to display the latest and most important news.
We integrated custom functionalities including a video slider, a podcast linked to major platforms like Spotify, a members area with restricted content for registered users, and a Thinkific page linked to the site to provide e-learning courses.
The new website front-end was built on WordPress using Elementor PRO. To improve conversions we build in custom functionality including floating CTA buttons for a newsletter subscription or accessing the e-learning platform.

Video slider
To highlight video content on the site we installed Smart Slider - a solution that allows the client to create video slides of the latest five articles in the video category. Videos have a short preview, and thanks to the YouTube-like view, users can easily switch between them. This functionality works well for driving engagements and conversions.
Plugins
The Cardiology-update website is highly customised, so we made use of several plugins to increase its functionality. These included Ultimate Member, Seriously Simple Podcasting, and Custom Twitter Feeds.
The Ultimate Member plugin manages the membership functionality and integration with the MailChimp newsletter, enabling subscribed users to read articles under a members-only restriction and submit a case for review to the board of editors.
The Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin connects the website with the Castos Podcast hosting provider and shows the latest podcasts to be released for the website.
The Custom Twitter Feeds plugin allows the client to display the new tweets from the official channel, directing traffic between the website and twitter to engage users across several different mediums.

Mobile
We put special emphasis on making sure the website is fully responsive on tablet and mobile devices. We simplified or removed some functional elements for the mobile version of the website to encourage greater user engagement, provide simpler user navigation, and higher conversion and traffic rates.
To ensure that the mobile site runs smoothly on all devices, we tested it across several devices and brands, including Apple, Samsung, and others.
